mood with time to kill so I took a drive before picking Eric up from school. I loved going to Parker's when I was little. Not only was it a store and I would generally get something if I asked for it* but the customer service booth handed out lollipops. You know the lollipops with tightly twisted paper looping around to make a handle for the pop? Those. *Just a note. You know those individually-wrapped Scott toilet paper rolls? I was always fascinated with those but I never got one. Maybe I'll start a new topic on things I always asked for but never got.

Lucille. Does this give you a better idea of how tiny she is?

Did you notice something? After tearing away the part on the box which allows the cans to easily dispense, it reads "Diana Jones" above Harrison Ford.

Lucille.
Cosme and I took her to the vet on Friday. She'll stay outside...if we keep her. Yes, she is inside right now but only because she's so little and she needs to destress. The vet wants me to bring her back in next week for some shots. Once I start her on shots, I'll probably keep her.
While we were in the vet's office, I started to think about names. Eric had a couple of names picked out but they were all boy names. But what if he was a she? I started thinking about girl names. Someone in the office said, "Desi"... ding, ding, ding...I'll call her Lucy, no Lucille. I thought about it for a second and assured myself Eric would never go for Lucille. Then I remembered BB King's guitar...Lucille! Perfect. I called Eric on the way home and told him IF we keep her, she'll be called Lucille. He asked, "you mean like BB King's guitar, cool!"-see how it all works out.

the birthday cake. Mom and Lauren came down and we had a birthday dinner for Lauren. I packed up the cake for her to take home. I walked out to the car and Lauren was looking at me with this in front of her.
It was so funny. I had to get a picture. The cake wasn't anything spectacular. It was strawberry with cream cheese frosting. The decorations were from a packet found in any grocery store. But...it was almost a full cake. Maybe I should invest in a better cake carrier - or quit sending cakes home with Lauren.

carnival if you're not going to have a funnel cake? Really. Is there any other reason? Yeah, all carnival food is good, but funnel cakes are the best.
Cosme and I were at the San Jacinto Festival last night. We went over to get some snacks and I ordered a funnel cake. Since they make them as the cakes are ordered, the customer steps to the side and allows the next person in line to place their order...carnival etiquette. The lady ahead of me got her cake and left, I stepped aside to allow the next customer to place his order. (We'll refer to him as drunken redneck.) I watched through the window as the workers perfected candy apples, filled bags of popcorn and poured my cake's batter into the grease. Once drunken redneck, or "DR", orders his funnel cake, he turns to "farmer joe" behind him and strikes up a conversation. "How are things on the farm?"...blah, blah, blah. Still waiting on my funnel cake here. I'm not sure if it's his lingering odor of eau de Budweiser, his dialect, the fact he's in my way or all of it together, but it doesn't take DR long to get on my nerves. Ahh, funnel cake. It's a chilly night and a nice hot funnel cake awaits. The lady pulls it out and lets it drain a little before covering it with powdered sugar. She comes to the window, I hold out my hands and DR grabs it, sticking his nubby little greased up thumbnail in my perfect funnel cake. Wait, what about me? Oh no he d'int. Hey DR! Do you NOT notice that I've been waiting here for my funnel cake and reaching my arms out to grab it from the lady? I, being the way I am, stay cool...okay so I did say a few things. (You know how I work. Raise my voice and indirectly say how I feel. Yeah, it totally embarrasses Eric.) Anyway, he takes MY funnel cake and I only wish that this annoying DR will trip and fall in a nearby puddle. Wouldn't that be great? Whatever. The lady quickly realized what happened and apologized. I tell her it's okay and begin to wait on the next funnel cake. All of a sudden, Cosme points DR out to me. He wasn't five feet away and bam. He dropped it. Beautiful. (I'm starting to dig this whole karma thing.) DR picks up his funnel cake and chunks it. The ground in front of him shows traces of the funnel cake, damp green grass with a distinct circle of powdered sugar. I've never wanted my camera so badly. Why did I leave it at home? Oh well. I'll always cherish that moment, the moment karma came and bit DR in the arse.

Yes, we went back today and yes, we got another funnel cake. We couldn't resist. I would like to add that the homemade corndogs also rock.

I just haven't felt like posting anything. First of all, there's been a lot going on. Second, I'm on a new computer and haven't felt like installing all my camera stuff. I'd really like to get my laptop up and running again. Maybe I'll put it in the shop, I don't know. Call me lazy, call me preoccupied, whatever...I'll get over it. There will be new pictures soon. Not only am I in the mood, but we're going to see BB King next week...and Buddy Guy two weeks later. Don't give up on me, I'll get back with the program.

terrifies me the most is water. Large bodies of water? Surrounded by water? Forget about it. I can't stand water. Not long ago Cosme and I went to the beach. We started to walk down the jetty and I was fine. All of a sudden, the sand got too far away and panic hit. I had to walk back, fast, while cupping my hands around my eyes to hide the water. Another time we were out fishing on a boat. I was fine until we headed back. Panic hit again and I had to sit on the floor of the boat so I couldn't see the water. I'm not too crazy about water. rule #1

if you are ignorant, do not make any contact with me. Actually, don't even THINK about making contact with me. I have no tolerance for such.
rule #2
I am polite and expect it in return. Anything less is not accepted. If you don't have good manners then you don't need to be bothering me. I'm too busy to go out of my way to treat you as you treat others...so don't waste my time.
Thank you.

I post this for
my fellow Alzheimer's patients-in-waiting:
TOKYO (AFP) - The age-old belief goes that alcohol helps people drown their sorrows, but in truth the bottle only makes bad memories linger, a Japanese study said Friday.
Researchers at the University of Tokyo concluded that ethanol -- an intoxicating agent in alcohol -- does not cause memory to decrease, as widely believed, but instead locks it in place.

the pep rally. Thank goodness another lady brought her camcorder since ours only got 8 seconds of it. Anyway, here's my contributions. It was pretty exciting.

meet one of the
happiest people around. Not only does Eric have his first performance scheduled for Friday (playing the Star Spangled Banner for each academic pep rally at the junior high), but he was also accepted into the high school jazz band today. He had to go in and speak with the band director and play something. He chose "Lenny" by Stevie Ray Vaughan.
He's excited to now have to play his guitar for homework.

I think we might go to La Strada tonight. mmm, tasty.

UPDATE: "mmm, tasty"? umm, not so much. We got a free meal out of it. For a decent steak and grilled chicken, avoid La Strada.

how normal ISN'T this?
First, not that I've paid much attention to cats, but I thought his resting position was strange. Second, I didn't know cats watched tv. I walked into the living room to find Strat stretched out in this position on the couch watching tv. To make it even more unusual, he stayed there while I got the camera out and took the pictures.

i know these aren't
great but I'm pretty sure these were the last drawings I did. They were just quick drawings from several years ago. The first is Eric watching tv before going to sleep. The other is the following morning before I woke him up for school. (Yeah, I know you're probably not digging his face being scratched out in one but I've never been good with faces.) So why am I posting these? I've been thinking about getting my charcoal out. I don't know, it's just an idea.

he's a little bit country...

not, but he is a little bit rock & roll. All the kitten collars looked so girlie. I couldn't wrap a pink flowered collar around his neck, I just couldn't. So I picked up a bell and headed over to the dog collars where I was sure I could find something more manly. I picked this one up which happens to resemble Eric's belt. Anyway, with a name like Strat, he has to walk the walk.
It was funny once I got it on him. I took the bell off until he can get used to the collar. (He was banging his head on the floor trying to stop the bell from ringing.) So, I took the bell off and then walked across the kitchen to jingle it and call him. He pushed his chin (is it called a chin on a cat?) against the floor and proceeded by pushing himself with his hind legs. I had this kitten coming to me, scraping his head and front paws on the tile as if that would pull the collar off. whatever. It was a sight. I waited for him to fall asleep to get a picture of it. Obviously, he woke up. But look at these pictures I also caught!

Lauren was quite fond of a little bunny puppet. After twenty years of neglect, it fell victim to a vicious attack.
Guess who won.
I walked out of my room to find the bunny in the death grip of Strat. They were rolling all over the floor. I caught some brutal shots but decided to keep it mild on the blog. There was one blurry one with the kitten's paw outstretched after the bunny had just been kitty-slapped, or Strat-slapped. here's one

a toilet. I don't remember exactly what happened but I remember a toilet and an uncomfortable lack of privacy. I saw this and really liked it. I enjoy scenes like this so much more than, say, a few deer out in a field.

the rural settings? I have.
Again, this was a detour on my way home from taking Eric to school. Yeah, I take my camera with me every morning. I never know when I'll feel like taking a detour or going for a ride to see what I might find. Today I found these guys. I know it's not uncommon, but there were a lot of deer out today. Maybe they're out enjoying this 70 degree morning before the rain comes.
