Christmas party pictures by Eric. Yes, the picture's crooked. Eric was goofing off (imagine that).Oh wait, I had to move my hair so you could see my earrings. Aren't they huge? Check out the eye makeup. It's rare for me to cake it on like that. Christmas parties and Halloween are the two exceptions. What do you think about that tie? I picked it out. I love it. We match well, don't you think?

just a picture

from the weekend.

happy thanksgiving

Eric let the cats in the kitchen after we ate to give them a little sample of lunch. They really liked it.

We finished eating around 11:30 a.m. (hey, a whole two hours later than last year) and I've already had a nap. I think I should get some more rest. The outlet mall on 290 opens at midnight for black Friday specials. (Of course I'll be there.)

it's beginning to look

a lot like Christmas...and Eric's birthday. His Fender American Vintage 1962 Strat came Wednesday. I don't completely understand how it can be a "vintage" when it's reissued.
We agreed to get him this guitar for his Christmas and birthday presents. He wanted it early for a jazz band show so we also agreed to get it if he'd trim a little more off his hair. After the agreement, the jazz band show was put off. So now we're all happy. Eric has his present and I'm through shopping! I told Cosme it just won't be right since Eric doesn't have anything to open on Christmas and we'll still have presents...so maybe we should go ahead and do Christmas early as well.

look what HEB has

for only 59 cents a pound. I think I'll get three!

Not really. This is posted under the "tamale fixins" section of their ad. Hmm, I wonder what the people that sell tamales in the grocery store parking lots out of their trunks use. I don't even want to know. Whatever it is, I'm sure they didn't pay 59 cents a pound for it. blgh.

I think I'll stick to chicken from now on. Don't get me wrong, I love me some overcooked bacon. And ham? mmm. I first of all don't like mystery meat. And second, if I'm going to eat something I for sure don't want it smiling at me beforehand.

remember when

it was 100 degrees and all the flowers were blooming? It's pretty and all but I sure do like fall.

i love these

shoes.I have been eyeing them for the longest time. I've needed a pair of black shoes to wear out with my jeans. I decided to quit putting it off and get these now that fall is here. After all this time, the size 9 was still there. Isn't that amazing? They look like me, don't they? Get this. I brought them home and was admiring them when I noticed the pattern and thought about this necklace I love. How perfect is that? Yes, they're the same brand and I got them both from Cindy but still. I just love it when things like this happen.

talk about an elephant

in the room. I found this hat at Target yesterday. There was no way I could pass it up. In the process of getting it on Strat, one of the pupils fell off.
I think Strat felt obligated to comfort Lucille."It'll be okay Lucille. Just ignore that crazy lady and let her get her kicks. It won't last long, I promise."

i'm taking a stand

Why? Because I don't want change. I finally joined the NRA. Now, if that Winfrey chick would promote it, all the mindless "I can't think for myself-I need a talk show host to guide me" Oprah lemmings would do the same. Fat chance. Well, I do have a mind of my own and I'm using it. (Attention Oprah lemmings: it's quite refreshing to think for yourself, you should try it sometime.)

"The Constitution shall never be construed … to prevent the people of the United States who are peaceable citizens from keeping their own arms." – Samuel Adams

I'll drink to that. It won't be Samuel Adams Boston Lager, but I'll drink to that.

gotta share this

Today I filled up with premium unleaded for $1.92/gallon. Isn't that amazing?

okay, so yesterday

Dad made a comment on how I don't post regularly. I'm not big on venturing out alone with my camera so a lot of times I just don't have anything to show. Today I'm going to back that up. Today's theme is "Melanie's stuck at the house so she's just going to show you what's going on". I'll start with why I'm waiting on the cable guy this morning...a new tv. Doesn't it fit perfectly? The cable guy's coming because some of the channels aren't the best quality.

I'm sure you don't want to see the eggs I forgot about but I'm keeping with my theme here. I love hard boiled eggs. The strange thing is I can never remember how to make them. I know it involves 10 minutes but I can never remember the exact procedure. Grandma would always get a phone call, "Grandma, how do I boil an egg again?" - sad, huh? They don't look bad for forgotten eggs, do they?

I wouldn't say I have OCD, but there are a few things that really don't rest well with me. I iron Cosme's workshirts before hanging them. I like to hang them in order of color, starting with black and ending with brown. (I base that on what he has, not the color wheel. Oh and fyi, white falls between gray and light blue.) Anyway, I like for this order to be kept. See?So, when Cosme puts on one shirt but changes his mind about it, we end up with this.I'm trying to deal with it. Sometimes I'll take it down to redo it. Lately I've just been undoing the fold. It's something I'm working on but to know it's hanging there like that bothers me. I thought of that because I spent the majority of yesterday doing laundry.

Other than that stuff, not much else is going on. Just ask Strat.Oh, I'm sorry, he's busy holding the piano down. Let's try Lucille.Sorry Lucille, I didn't mean for you to have to open your eyes.

Hopefully the cable guy will get here soon. I don't think I can handle all this excitement.

ahh, i think

the hair situation is over. We had Brittany cut a little more off today. I had Eric wash his hair so we could experiment for "school hair". We decided the styled hair will only be for special occasions, you know, like when the family gets together. Here's the "school hair".

i'll always have

Halloween. That was the last time I messed around with Eric's long hair. He finally got what he's been talking about. A haircut. If we can just have a brief moment of silence for all the inches he lost yesterday. [Insert moment here.] Brittany is down for the weekend, he's in a quinceanera today and decided there is no time like the present. So just like that, the hair is gone. I'm still trying to get used to it.
Is it my imagination or is Brittany having too much fun?

Look at how much he got rid of.

Almost finished.

Here he is this morning. Flat-ironed, styled and ready for the quinceanera. I don't hate it, I'm just not used to it. For the record, it's up to him to get it ready for school. If he can't take the time to fix it like below, he can wear it like the picture above.

For the record, it was a hit at the football game last night.

happy halloween

Eric stepped outside his comfort zone and I dressed him as a rockstar.

stickin' it

to the man

canada...

or Mexico? I can't quite decide which would be better, you know, just in case. You do realize there's an election next week, right? I can put up with a lot of crap, but I'm pretty sure the wrong ringleader of this circus will be too much even for me.

Please go vote for the right guy - I did last week.

i wasn't able

to get on my computer since the charger was 300 miles away. Now I'm back. Here are some people for you.

i wanted to get out

of the house yesterday so I grabbed my camera and went for a drive. I ended up at Quintana beach. Anybody ever done donuts in a Mercedes? LOL, only kidding, I played it safe since one of my biggest beach fears is soft sand.
It looks so different out there. I don't know if there's some sort of major development going on (Palms of Quintana luxury vacation rentals...uh, not likely) or if Ike had something to do with it. Everything looks flattened. This is a road leading to the beach. A while back I took pictures of Eric with his guitar under a pier that used to be immediately to the left of the beach entrance. Now it's gone. I really don't know what the deal is here. There were a lot of piles of debris. By debris, I don't mean limbs and such, more like house remnants. Here's one example.
Now, I know this isn't a pile of "debris", but I liked the way it looked. It was on the side of the road. I have to admit though, that would be kind of cool...sitting back in a recliner on the beach drinking a coke. It felt good outside and I would have stuck around longer had I not been alone. (You know how scared I get.)

I also saw this guy when I drove down to the jetties.

homecoming was

a couple of weeks ago. Here's the mum Eric gave Katie.
I don't understand the whole mum thing but I just go with it.

i'm sure all my friends

were jealous. I mean please, I really thought my dad was the indian in the Village People. Can't everyone see the resemblence?
What brought this up? There was a movie on this morning about the Village People. No, I didn't watch it...but I did have it on.

during the

evacuation we finally made it over to the statue. Now don't even, for one second, think I'd forget about one certain thing.
